    Thanks to all who replied. As always this is the best forum for quick and
    practicable fixes.

    The problem actually looks a bit easier than I thought. As we only use the
    lp system we should only need port 515 open through the firewall. For once
    this is not something that they only realised needed doing after the event
    so I have time to plan and implement it. The best suggestion for if it is
    still not working is to look at the firewall logs while tyring to send print
    jobs to see which port is being blocked.

    Incidentally, we use Kyocera printers here with a locally created driver so
    the situation would be different were one to use jetadmin say.
