I have installed new file system and mounted it for users on a Solaris 8 box.
Each time I go into the mounted directory and go back to the root level, it
creates a dump file. It happens only when I am using CDE but not when doing
the same from command line. Also, it happens only when moving back and forth
within this directory and it does not happen any other directory.
SUMMARY: how do I REALLY delete a file? ... leaving the rest of the file system intact.... Wipedrive doesn't seem to be available for Solaris, but might be of interest to ... run this on each filesystem where the files from ... >Solaris' UFS] do not satisfy this assumption." ... (SunManagers)

Re: Disk space on Solaris ... Why did the Solaris install do this, instead of giving me all my disk space on one drive? ... But now, with huge disks costing next to nothing, and modest tape drives being very expensive, tape is getting a bit of an expensive way to back up. ... Lets assume your program needs to go into /usr/local, but you have insufficient space on the root file system.... (comp.unix.solaris)
