cmd line groupadd versus admintool

    The recent discussion about groupadd (and getent) had me wondering why groupadd
    didn't pick up the "next" available number the way the group add function inside
    the admintool did...

    So, I wrote a Perl script to do it for me.
    (See attached.)

    Does anyone know why admintool will give (in my case) 103 as the next groupid
    and groupadd gives 52225? I mean there are PLENTY of other numbers between 102
    and 50000 to choose from...

    ( I suppose in the grand scheme of things it wasn't that important. )

    [demime 1.01b removed an attachment of type APPLICATION/octet-stream which had a name of testgroup.pl.gz]
