    Hi there,

I want to set up a remote syslog server for our SUN and HP machines.

I understand how to set the clients up so that it can log remotely, by
adding a line in the syslog.conf file. but my question is how do I set
up the syslog server? Is there any websites that I can have a look at.

What is the security implications of doing this. Is there any tricks
    and tip to do this?

    Regards
    Mike

I suggest you use syslog-ng to set up the remote logging. Syslog-ng supports
TCP logging, which is much reliable than UDP.

    You can go to <http://www.balabit.com/products/syslog_ng/>
    http://www.balabit.com/products/syslog_ng/ for more details.

    Gurus,

I need an urgent help. I am getting this error while booting up the server.
    What should I do. Thanks.

Type control-d to proceed with normal startup,

Check the setting of your network interface. Seems you don't have qfe0, but
some script tries to plumb it. Just find it and delete.

    Sun Gurus!

I have 10 SunFire V100, and two loadBalancers. I need each machine to be
connected to a load balancer, both load balancers are completely identical...
this is a requirement, one primary and one secondary. I need to have both
ethernet ports dmfe0 and dmfe1 have the same IP. The idea is that if one of
the LB goes flaky, we will power down the primary and power up the secondary
and the machines will switch from port 1 (primary) to port 2 9secondary) but
the apps which are IP dependant won't care.

Is there a way to do this?

Acctually the normal way to do this is IP-MultiPathing. In the IPMP case, you
can't configure the same ip on the different ethernet interface, but you need
3 ip or 4 ip to do a redundancy.

I am running Solaris 9 for Intel on a Dell Optiplex GX115.

My hostname is "unknown". I don't quite understand why. My hostname.elxl0
file reads "wa567sun", my hosts file has 2 entries:

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    134.154.84.77 wa567sun wa567sun.csuhayward.edu loghost

I get my proper IP address, everything appears okay and everything works, it
is just coming from host "unknown". I verified that hostname.elxl0 is
spelled correctly. I must be missing something simple -- can someone kick me
the right direction?. Thanks in advance.

Check 6 files to make sure the hosts in them are correct:
    /etc/hosts;/etc/nodename;/etc/hostname.elx10;/etc/net/*/hosts

Okay, so I RTFM'd a bit more and answered my own question. /etc/nodename was
gone. Sorry to have bothered you all.

    Hi All,

I'm looking for a replacement for my current setup: CP FW-1 VPN on
solaris (Something in the open source'd realm). I had a look at
openvpn.sourceforge.net but it doesn't really push me too much. What I'd
like is a vpn server that allows roadrunner type solutions, works with
windows clients such as PGP Net/Cisco etc.

    I'll summarize all responses.

            Hello,

I really need help with a SunFire that keeps on rebooting on me
after I tried to install Solstice DiskSuite (mirroring). The system boots
up with some warnings and then, following a panic message
    (panic[cpu0]/thread=10408000: mod_hold_stub: Couldn't load stub module
misc/strplhange ), it reboots again (and again, and again). I want to get
to the stage where I could reinstall Solaris. I was successful in getting
to the OK prompt by pressing STOP-A during the boot up sequence. However, I
can't execute 'boot cdrom'. I get a fatal error message "FATAL: system is
not bootable, boot command is disabled".

I suspect that there is a problem with partitioning. However, at
this point all I want to do is to reinstall Solaris. I do not need to
recover anything on the system. Any ideas, hints? All the help would be
    highly appreciated.

If you can't boot from OK mode, it's nothing to do with the partition. Set the
default values to all in the ok mode and reboot again.
