basic question on userids and groups

    We have some users and groups with the same name (example, say ptldt). So, if
    I delete the userid ptldt, does it affect the group "ptldt."

    1. In other words, userids and groups are two completely different entities -
    right?
    2. There are some files owned by the user ptldt in some of the other
    directories (not owned by ptldt). If I delete "ptldt" user, what about the
    files owned by that user? Will that files be inaccessible?
