    Dear all,

    Thank-you to everyone who replied with a tonne of useful advise.

    The reason my cron job was not work was because:
    "% has a special meaning to cron (treated like \n). You need to escape
    them."

    Thanks to John Julian Daniel Dene and David Harringtonf or this answer,
    and thanks to everyone else.
