I am looking for a tool (like screen or the Linux virtual
consoles) that allows multiple users to see one connection to a
remote host's console. A connection such as telnet or ssh to a
remote console ei: User-A is on console, user B, C and D are
viewing what user A is typing. Better if the tool can allow
users B, C, and D to take over the console. Most of my consoles
are TV100 emulators, Annex, CISCO, VCC, tip etc. Plus if the
tool uses encryption.
Reason: I need it for those occasions when a system dies and it
takes hours working on the console to fix it. It would be
really nice if everyone could telnet to a workstation and from
that workstation run a program that would allow everyone to view
the console of the down system and allow them to (view is
enough) but if allowed them to take turns as needed would be
best. Many times at 4-5AM when you cant type it would be nice
if other could be sharing or viewing the console. Is there such
a tool out-there?
I am looking for a way to limit the amount of memory that can be
taken from /tmp. I want to limit or leave space available on
/tmp. I would like to l leave 500MB on most servers and 1GB on
the big clusters. Can it be done with either
tmpfs:tmpfs_maxkmem or tmpfs:tmpfs_minfree and how? What would
the kernel settings be on /etc/systems? Please make sure that
you done it if you make a suggestion I would like something
from someone who has implemented it!
Reason: Users and sometimes fill /tmp and caused the system to
hang. If you are lucky you get there through the console and
remove the offending files. If not you might not have enough
resources to get in. On big clusters it can panic the nodes
when RPC goes south. Ill like to limit or reserve space away
from /tmp.
I am looking for a tool to allow me a decent/stable emergency
access to my systems. The tool could e a web server; an
instance that runs on each server. A tool that given certain
authentication will give access into the system as root. Or a
Perl , C, or "nc" type daemon that does the same (given a
pass-phrase give you a session into the system as root). Best
if the tool uses some type of encryption.
I have too many security models and some of them do not work as
intended. The average turn-around to get to a systems root
password (for when system crash) is about 1hr. Many times the
different security models do not work as designed and
implemented and we are forced to crash the system to single user
mode, remove the security products and then get in, re-install
the security products and go back to normal. (minus the SAs
sanity!). Ill like a tool than when all else fails would let
me service the system.
