We have a Sunfire V120 Server with 10 SunRays connected to it. One
processor, 1 GB of memory, 2 NIC, 2 years old, 18 GB HD, 2 GB swap.

SunRays 100 are running on a private network with a 100 MB switch, full
duplex. Sunfire is connected with the other NIC to the internet.

Non-Card users are allowed access through a login. We have 2 user accounts
on the Sunfire, which are only used by the Staff in case we have problems.
Our library public as Card Users will access through Controlled Access Mode,
which will start a Citrix Connection to a MetaFrame Server.

Actually there is no load on the Sunfire at all. Nevertheless we have
noticed, that the SunRay screen builds up very slowly at certain times.
First we thought that the problem could be caused by the network speed or
the terminal server, but found out that this is not the case. Actually the
terminal server more or less improves the built-up of the screen.

Then we looked at the Sunfire again, to see how busy it actually gets...
Moving windows around the screen really degrades services, the CPU gets 100
% busy... It even gets worse, if we log straight on to the Sunfire only
using CDE through a SunRay 100. It seems sometimes like the screen builds up
line by line. If I log on through a Windows System Xsession, I do not see
those problems, so it really seems that it is caused by the SunRay 100/

We are using Solaris 9, CDE 1.5, SunRay Server 2.0.

Does anybody have any suggestion, other then replacing the hardware?
