    Dear managers,

I have two machines with two interfaces each. Both machines were
routing traffic from external interface to the internal one. I had to
change the external ip-addresses of the machines. I did this like so.

    ifconfig dmfe1 down
    ifconfig dmfe1 <new ip-address> broadcast <broadcast> netmask <netmask>
    plumb up

After doing that routing no longer worked. I made sure there is still
no /etc/defaultrouter and also removed and readded the default route
(which hasn't changed) but still no success.

In the meanwhile I have managed to get one of the machines back to
routing although I have no ideas how (I did a reboot, may be this did
the trick). I haven't rebooted the other machine. How can the
ip-addresses be changed without the need to reboot the machine. What am
    I missing?

    Thanks a lot!

    Regards,

       Andreas
