    The suggested solution were using either npasswd or
    Symark's Powerpasswd.

    The npasswd is the direct replacement for the solaris
    provided passwd program according to Chrisopher.

    The Powerpasswd is not free but it can sync password
    across multiple servers and across Solaris and Linux
    systems.

    I think I will start from npasswd first.
