    Thanks to Tod A. Sandman who pointed out the problem's origin and solution
    :)

    Installing the DiskSuite 4.2.1 which is shipped with Solaris 8 and then
    patching doesn't add the line
    forceload: misc/md_sp
    in /etc/system, which is done installing a newer version.

    Adding the above line and rebooting the server solved the problem.

    Thank you :) now back to the Informix databases... :)
