    Hi gurus.

I got many answers. First, I would like to apologize. I made a mistake and should have been more explicit. When I said that it was broken, I should have said that I couldn't connect to another server. Anyway, thanks for all the answers and quick feedback. Too many responses to say thanks individually. Most people suggested I download and install a newer version of ssh. I know it's an old version. But things need to be tested and rolled out in a timely manner when you have hundreds of servers and workstations. Other ideas included checking PAM, resintall SSH, checking the kernel patch, and some other things. The one who gets the prize was from Crist Clark. I hate to admit, but he had the right idea. Nobody else, including myself thought of it. To wit: You didn't kill the running sshd daemon first.

    grant
