    well it seems that it was a simple solution :-) and that is that i was
    running sar without any arguments.... thanks to Jeff Barratt-McCartney.
    Peter van Gemert summarised my problem nicely. Also thanks to the input
    of Brad Heck,Srinivasa Cherukuri for their suggestions of editing the sys
    crontab ... i think though this is if you want to use the history part of
    sar.. Also Andrew Rotramel suggested touching the files it was referring
    to in my error msg referring to /usr/adm/sa/sa28. This though i think is
    also related to the history part of sar.So sar is working ... thanks for
    everyone's imput anthony
