cannot relay email messages

     Hi gurus,

    I am trying to relay a message but not having success on it. I have already configured the server sending emails with the smarthost. I did the same things in the development server and worked just fine. Now in production, not being able to relay messages through it. running the verbose mode, it comes up with the message:

    050 <abc@yahoo.com>... Connecting to prodserver.mycompany.com. via relay...050 <abc@yahoo.com>... Deferred: Connection timed out with prodserver.mycompany.com.

    Why is this happening?
    Could it be any firewall in the middle that's not allowing the relays?
    Is there any configuration file in the production server that I can look into to allow the relaying from other server with different subnet.

    Any help would be appreciated.. thankyou.
