Keeping tabs on network health



Recently installed Orca/SEToolkit on a handful of Solaris 8 servers. On one particularly busy one I'm seeing TCP stats that are concerning some, and I'm not able to explain why the number are what they are.

Without details, what I'm wondering is, is there a way to monitor failed connections from and to our server? I can see whether they've happened, but we're interested in where they're going or coming from.

Likewise, TCP retransmissions is (in the opinions I've gathered) rather high, and we'd like to be able to tie those to specific connections (the server deals with long running, persistent connections).


With details:

TCP Attempt Fail Rate is flat at 0.033 fails/second, which tells me something is consistently trying to connect to a service that isn't there.

TCP Reset rate is hitting highs of 1.5 resets /second. Being behind a firewall and in a relatively controlled environment, I'd expect this number to be near zero.

Retransmission rate peaks at 15% and during our busy hours is consistent around 10%. Information I've gathered has been inconsistent on where I should be worried.



Any direction on this would be appreciated. I have no problem researching this myself, but I'm having trouble finding information.
