Problem booting zones on Solaris 10 s10_74L2a

Hi to all,

I have been testing various new features on Solaris 10 for an up and coming
project.

I have a problem in creating zones.

I use a jumpstart server to install the OS and have added the patch install
in the jumpstart profile. The issue is, after the jumpstart, and hence
after the latest recommended patch cluster, when I try to boot off a newly
created zone it errors with the following :

# zoneadm -z <zonename> boot
zoneadm: zone '<zonename>': mount of /etc/mnttab failed: No such file or
directory
zoneadm: zone '<zonename>': call to zoneadmd failed

The creation and installation of the zone works, it just fails when
attempting to boot the zone. I have tried jumpstarting solaris 10 with a
reduced number of patches in the cluster with the same results. The
interesting thing is that if I comment out the line in the profiles that
install the patches, i.e. do not install any patches at all during the
jumpstart phase, then the zone boot succeeds.

Likewise if I install the server with no patches and then install the
recommended cluster manually afterwards the zone boot succeeds.

This to me indicates a problem with the mechanism for installing patch
clusters during a jumpstart of solaris 10. I have searched for possible
reasons and many earlier posts indicate problems with missing or installed
patches but none of it relates to me as the patches that are required are
installed and the patches that should not be there, aren't there?

I do know that a work around is to create an empty zone:/root/etc/mnttab
file. Then the boot works but it doesn't tell me what the issue is in the
first place. Also, although I may be able to boot afterwards, it doesn't
tell me if there is anything else amiss.

Can anyone throw any light on this?

Regards,

David S.
