SUMMARY: How to update a release

Thank you all who answered my question (see below).

The right way to update a release is installing using the update option; patches
are not enough.

A colleague mentioned live upgrade mode, which minimizes down time:

Thank you again!

Original question:

My /etc/release reads that IB4m running Solaris 04/02. What is the best
way to update the release?
Do I have to re-install Solaris from a CD using the update option? Or
simply applying the recommended patches
is enough?
