[SUMMARY] vxdisksetup will not run

thanks for the many replies.
I gave up and rebooted the machine shortly after posting the follow-up.
It's possible our old volume manager install was in need of a patch or our spares where not really sun disks.
They did seem to have the same part number and firmware as the failed disks.
thanks again everyone!
In the near future we'll probably setup a photon in the lab and burn in our disks.
... and get a new set of arrays
