Hi,
Sorry for th elate summary.
I ended up installing BigBrother, it gave me the features I needed, and
allows my customers to monitor their servers which is really could.
Here are the replies... thanks to everyone, even to those who remind me that
some times, you can takes holidays and be out of the office..

More options 20-Jun (7 days ago)Hi,
just the first what comes in mind here: Do you know "BigBrother"? BB itself
is not free-of-costs, but there's a freeware clon called hobbit which is
licensed under GPL.
Hobbit can monitor CPU usage, warn you when the load is too high, and it
should also be able to monitor user's login times, maybe with an additionial
script.
The big advantage of BB (resp. hobbit) is that it has all the server stuff
already built in, including support for LARRD for drawing nice pictures,
etc.
Maybe worth a try...
HTH,
Harald

Hi gurus,
I have a buinch of machines around the globe, and I need to get reports of
cpu usage and log-in time per each of the user on each of the machine. Then
I have two options, format the date for an spread***, or show them somwhow
on the internal web.
Now, is there any FREE (like in I don't have a budget for this) package that
I could use for this? I know that it is possible and I done it before with
scripts, but at the moment, I don't have the time to do it that way.
Cheers!

Thanks for the reply.
Will BB be a intrusive software? Do I need to have something else running?
Thanks!

Yes, but it does need quite a lot of configuration on the server side, and I
want something more or less out of the box...
Thanks!

Hi,
BB consists of a server which runs the monitoring software and a webserver
(Apache) to view the results, and so-called agents which have to be
installed on the clients. These agents report to the server, and the server
stores the values in a round-obin database.
Maybe you should take a look at hobbitmon.sourceforge.net to get an idea of
the system. www.deadcat.net is also a good starting point, and a good source
for many add-ons.
Have a nice hackin',
Harald

Hi,
For viewing the reports over the web, which is more presentable, you can
try mrtg.
Here are the links:
http://mrtg.hdl.com/mrtg.html
You can also download sun binaries from sunfreeware.com
Initial setup is tedious but be patient and install all pre-requesites.
This will give you daily/weekly/monthly/yearly graphs too.
Regards,
Minoti Koul
