Thanks for you replies. I think the answer for solaris <=3D 9 is that it
cannot be done directly in the OS. The best tool I found was psio,
http://www.brendangregg.com/psio.html which is well worth installing.
The gentleman who wrote psio also did an interesting white paper on the
subject http://brendangregg.com/Perf/paper_diskubyp1.pdf ( it is far to
complex for me!)

iostat -xnmpz 5 gives some interesting results

I know this is a frequently asked question but I cannot find an easy
solution! Is there a simple way with Solaris 9 to cross reference
processes and disk usage?

We have a server which will suddenly slow up. Top will show CPU at 0%
idle and 99% iowait but I cannot find the process(s) which are causing

the problem. After a while it will return to normal.

Any suggestions anyone? If I didn't know better, I would say we have a

virus!


I cannot think of a direct method like dtrace in Solaris 10 but you
might be able (I've not tried it) to narrow the field using microstate
accounting in prstat, specifically the SLP column in prstat -mL and then
truss any likely suspects.

You have probably already used iostat to look for disc problems and
congestion.
