SUMMARY: Cannot re-install Solaris 8

Dear Sunmanagers

Thanks to everyone that replied. Sorry for the long
delay in posting a
summary. As suggested by almost everyone that replied, the
problem was
the hard disk. After replacing the hard disk I was able to
re-install
Solaris 8.

Subject: Cannot re-install Solaris 8

Dear Sunmanagers

I have
an Ultra 5 running Solaris 8 Version Generic_108528_29. On
rebooting the
system (either multiuser or single user runlevel), the
system panics and
restarts.

In an effort to remedy this situation, I did the following:
Entered "ok" prompt and ran "boot cdrom" with the Solaris 8 (2/02) cd.
Results:

Part of the installation completes successfully (sytem
identification)
but the installation encounters errors when the filesystem
has to be
created. The error(s) are as follows:

WARNING: timeout:
reset target chno = 0 targ = 0

timeout: reset bus chno = 0
targ = 0

Drive not ready before set_features
/pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/dad@0,0(dad0)

Transport rejected
(-2)

ERROR: File system creation failed for / (c0t0d0s0) could not
check or
create system critical file systems.

Could not
update disks with new configuration

Any ideas???

Thanks and
regards

Shiroma
