Thanks everyone for their valuable time on this matter. I ended up removing it from the NIS domain and re-installed Veritas Netbackup. All happy.

For starters, you didn't list which version *and maintenance pack* of NBU you are using.
Have you confirmed that you're using a supported release?

My further checking shows that the following are in maintenance mode:
maintenance 21:35:37 svc:/network/bpcd/tcp:default
maintenance 21:35:37 svc:/network/vnetd/tcp:default
maintenance 21:35:37 svc:/network/vopied/tcp:default
maintenance 21:35:37 svc:/network/bpjava-msvc/tcp:default
svc log file doesn't show me why these are in maintenance mode. Tried clear disable/enable with no luck.
