Setting netmask on Solaris 10 sparc?

Greetings. I just installed our 1st Solaris 10 system, and am finding it
to be substantially different than Solaris 9 - or else I'm just losing
my mind!

I've configured an interface (hme0) in /etc/hostname.hme0, and set the
netmask in /etc/inet/netmasks and modified /etc/hosts,
/etc/defaultrouter, /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nodename.

On reboot, the interface is right, default route is right, but netmask
is not what I set it to be and thus DNS doesn't work, etc. The netmask
may be what it was set to when I was building the system. There has to
be a hidden file somewhere that is changing this. Can some kind soul
please point me in the right direction? Thanks much!
