Unable to find console

Forgot to include this info. This is a Solaris 8 machine that is fully
patched on a Sun 280R. I did see one thing in Google about Solaris 10. I
have a couple of open sessions open that I get messages about I/O error if I
try run an ls -l. vi complains about it can't write to /var/tmp/xxxxxxx.
Further data can be supplied. Thanks.
