Long usernames under Solaris 9 and 10

I understand that the official position is still that usernames
are limited to 8 characters.
However, I'm wondering if anyone out there has used long usernames
(9 - 32 characters) under Solaris 9 and/or Solaris 10.
And if so have you run into any problems, either major or minor?
I'm just trying to get a sense of what specifically might break
should one choose to risk using long usernames.
