Everyone seem to agree it was not possible on my machine.
Dr. Thomas Blinn said it is possible on a few (very few) of the larger +
newer machines. He, like myself thought it was a useful feature if
implemented correctly.
Certainly it's been useful on my Suns, where I tend to test software on
a large number of machines then want them switched off together. There's
no need to check the system is down before powering it off, since the
software/hardware only powers it off when its safe to do so.
Iain Barker said "Not sure about that specific machine. On my AS4100's
it can be done from RCM. Type ^]^]RCM and then poweroff. But I think RCM
may be a server-only feature."
Graham pointed out that also its not possible on the Personal
Workstation for it to restart following a power failure. My Sun Ultra 80
(and I think the much older SPARCstation 20's) have a memory, so know if
they were powered off on purpose or not.
