Thanks to Jeff Foster, Bob Sloane, Stephen L. LaBelle, Jim Eiler, Shaun
    Racine, and Martin Rønde Andersen.

Most replied to say they were completely successful.

    Areas where problems occurred:
space in /, expand it from 128MB to 256MB
A single-board VME based alpha did require a patch kit in 5.1 before 5.1B
    could be installed
RAID Array 300 GUI could not be installed in 5.1B
"If you are running cluster the only way is to build a new one node
cluster, and then ex. 5.1 , 5.1a and then 5.1b."

Areas where complexity were reduced because of a "double upgrade":
No patch needs to be installed between the first and second upgrades

Some recommended a clean install but made sure to mention making an on-line
copy of /, /usr, and /var before starting. It simplifies things such as
    rebuilding crontab entries quickly.

    ============= Original question ===============
Has anybody performed back to back upgrades in a single session to bring a
system up to 5.1b from 4.0g?

Did you encounter any unusual problems that couldn't be forseen?

    Thanks!
    Jeff
