    hello managers

We have a problem pertaining to the NFSv3 performance against
NFSv2, I have seen a lot of other posts discussing the same
topic , but have not got any satisfatory answers.

    Here is my problem.

We have a standalone Alphaserver DS20 running Tru64 v5.1B and
Patch kit 1 which acts as a NFS server.

We also have 5 ES40's running v4.0F patch kit 7 running as
    NFS clients.

Periodically I see the following NFS errors on all of my NFS
    clients

    Jul 15 07:47:18 nfsclient vmunix: NFS3 server nfsserver_name
    not responding still trying
    Jul 15 07:47:23 nfsclient vmunix: NFS3 server nfsserver_name
    ok

    I did a small experiment whereby I copied a 100MB file
concurrently on all the five NFS clients and I immediately
get the above error. At this time all my clients were running
    NFSv3.

As a second experiment , I changed my clients to NFSv2 and
ran the same copy , and surprise I do NOT see any errors,
Also the the time it takes to copy all the files is one half
of what it takes with NFSv3.

I have checked the read/write sizes, timeo and retrans values
on both NFSv2 and NFSv3 and they are the same.

I should also mention that I have Tru64 UNIX v4.0F NFS
servers and the clients pointing to that server DO NOT get
    the errors.

The above leads me to believe its more of a implementation
    NFS on V5.1B problem.

Has anybody else seen this or know of any solution/fixes?

    Thanx
