    Hello,

Firstly, thanks to all the people (Piotr Grzybowski, Dr. Thomas P. Blinn,
Nikola Milutinovic, Matthew Wild, Selden E. Ball, Jr. and others )who gave
me answers last time, most of them were to check logs, what I did, but I
couldn't find out from them what could be wrong.

I'll remind you what the problem is. I have an alphastation 255. I have
installed digital unix V3.2D. I can run it only in init mode 2, with text
only console, but when I'm trying to switch to the init mode 3, to start
the X windows, the monitor turns off and it seems like the computer turns
    off too.

Now I'm trying to install the V4.0e, but it causes even more problems - it
starts in textual mode and while it's in textual mode, it's OK, but when
it begins to start the X server, same thing happens. The monitor goes grey
for a few seconds and then turns off completely. I can here that a CD
spins for a while and the keyboard's "numlock" and "capslock" respond,
what is different from running x from V3.2D - here thay don't work too.

Before I installed the V3.2D, the hard disk was completely empty, so I
guess, it has nothing to do with the configuration of the unix. The hard
disk is 40 GB, so the overflow can't happen I guess. Maybe the are
problems with the configuration of the firmware, maybe it is set to
control the computer from the other computer, using LAN connection? But.
if so, how could it be changed back?

When I check the startup log the last rows are:
tu0: console mode: selecting UTP (10BaseT) port: no link
    dli: configured

    the lastlog file is:
    M-<=08console

in the SRM, console is set to graphics.

This computer is not connected to network or to any other computer, I need
to run it using it's own keyborad and monitor.

Maybe anyone knows what I could do or has any ideas?

    Regards,
    Karina
