    Hello
I have a problem that is going on with my system.

    I am running an AS2000 4.0g.

Is there a limit in the number of files on a directory for a command to do??

What I mean is this. I have a directory that the operator has typed this
command every day (well it is actually ran in a script) but it errored
    out on Monday.

This command is chmod a+rw /dir_name/sub_dir/*

Even running it alone from root gave the same error. arg list to long.

There are over 1000 files in that directory and 23 of which are sub
    directories.

Nothing has changed that I know of. We had a problem on Monday that
could be related but not sure.

All of our files are transferred to a VMS print queue and then they get
printed to the VMS printers. I don't know what happens with the printed
    reports after it gets transferred.

Anyhow On Monday someone sent a file to be printed, that file hung up
the daemon (VMS) and it wasn't corrected until the following day. All
night none of the files from the Alpha were sent over to be printed.
After removing the faulty file from the daemon and restarting it the
printers all were busy for a long time.

On Monday the error that I got started and it continued through last
night. I had done some things and thought that I got it working but no
dice. Today the printing is fine but the chmod job still failed.
