tar bug in 5.1B PK3???

Has anyone found a bug with tar in V5.1b PK3??
I have issued the command
tar cvf filename.tar .
And tar is proceeding to create an archive which includes
filename.tar. It didn't use to do this did it?
It used to say Error: filename.tar same as archive, or some such.
Am I finally loosing my marbles?
