Thanks to Dr. Thomas Blinn, Nikola Milutinovic and John Lanier
    for providing helpful information!

truss belongs to System V utilities, that can be installed from one of
the Associated Products CD:s. However, this utility prior to Tru64 5.x
needs a separate license called SVE320, which is not included and has
to be separately purchased. This license is also not included in campus
licenses. Thus, to get truss you have to pay, if you already haven't.

You also need to make sure the CD is the right version, otherwise
you may get a non-working truss from it, like happened to me. This
should not be a problem normally. However, if the CD is mounted over
NFS, the version check in setld may fail and a wrong version gets
    installed.

An alternative to truss is "trace", which can be downloaded from:

    ftp://ftp.iastate.edu/pub/unix/digital_unix/trace/

Trace works maybe a little less well than original truss (judging from
truss on 5.1A), but in most cases it should be adequate. trace can also
be a little shaky, (it occasionally dumps core, but usually manages to
trace a whole lot before doing so - your mileage may vary). For me, it
    worked well enough.
