AS1000 4/266 Firmware Question

    In preparation for a transition from DU 4.0D to 5.1A by a "new" install, I
    want to do the necessary firmware upgrade but have some concerns.

    1) According to the release notes in the final AS1000 4/2xx firmware
    release (V5.4), the minimum OS version for this release of V5.4 is DU
    4.0D. The minimum OS version for firmware AS1000 4/2xx release V5.3 is DU4.0D.

    2) For Tru64 5.1A on the AS1000 4/2xx, the minimum firmware version should
    be V5.4.

    I was under the impression that firmware releases were backwards compatible
    and would like to install V5.4 while running DU4.0D for a few days before
    "upgrading" to 5.1A. Would there really be any compatibility problems or
    were the constraints listed above due validation and support issues?
