V5.1B stat=Operating system error

    We have a remote server running Tru64 V5.1B which we are having problems
    with mail not working,
    we are seeing the following errors in the
    /var/adm/syslog.dated/current/mail.log -

    Sep 22 08:52:26 "SERVER" sendmail[29138]: i8M7qQB0000029138: from=name,
    size=2045, class=0, nrcpts=1,
    msgid=<200409220752.i8M7qQB0000029138@fqdn>, relay=root@localhost
    Sep 22 08:52:26 "SERVER" sendmail[29138]: i8M7qQB0000029138:
    SYSERR(root): getmxrr: res_search (sys_name.domain) failed with
    impossible h_errno (0)

    Sep 22 08:52:26 RIOJA sendmail[29138]: i8M7qQB0000029138: to="address",
    ctladdr=name (0/1), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=smtpr,
    pri=32045, relay="sys_name.domain", dsn=4.0.0, stat=Operating system
    error

    Have seen many message regarding similar problems, but no resolution
    details.
