    Much thanks to:

    Edward Brewer
    Tom Linden
    Graham Allen
    Mark M. Van Overbeke

The solution was ridiculously simple: lmf reset

    I don't know why I didn't think of that.

    Original question:

Our campus-wide licenses expire every October. We have about a dozen
Alphas in use as servers and the license update went off without an
error on any of them. However, one machine won't let anyone but root
login, saying "Too many users logged on already." and the "OSF-USR has
expired" message appears on the console. The following output is from
    this machine:

    # lmf list full for OSF-USR
               Product Name: OSF-USR
                   Producer: DEC
                     Issuer: DEC
       Authorization Number: B0704-CAMPUSWIDE-1877
            Number of units: 0
                    Version:
       Product Release Date:
       Key Termination Date: 30-OCT-2005
    Availability Table Code:
        Activity Table Code: CONSTANT=100
                Key Options:
              Product Token:
                Hardware-Id:
             License status: active
          Cancellation Date:
            Revision Number: 0
                    Comment:
          Cache Total Units: 0
            Activity Charge: 100
               Usable Units: -100
     Cache Termination Date: 30-OCT-2004

So the license doesn't expire until 2005, but the cache termination date
has passed, and the usuabele units is negative.

    How do I fix this?
