TSZ07 can't write since 5.1a upgrade

            We have a site that was just upgraded to Tru64 5.1a from 4.0f with a
    fresh start install, and now they can't write to their TSZ07 tape drive. No
    problem reading from tapes that were previously created. HW support has
    done a self-test on the drive and it is OK. I see nothing with the drr
    entry.

            I have tried device /dev/ntape/tape1, tape1c, tape1_d0 and tape1_d1
    with no luck. It is blowing an error ILLEGAL REQUEST - Illegal request or
    CDB parameter. I will list the whole error. Would appreciate any advice.
