I connected an MSA30 external storage cabinet to a running
Alphaserver's SmartArray 5300A controller, expecting that it
is possible to hot-plug SCSI storage. This is apparently not the
case. HP Support finally recommended me to reboot the server,
and during reboot the SA5300A *does* find the MSA30 correctly.
This undocumented reboot requirement when adding storage cabinets,
IMHO, ought to be in a FAQ for SmartArray controllers.
