We are in the market for a refurbished GS1280 Model 8 system with 1.3 Ghz
CPUs and 48 GB RAM. I would like to see what kind of recent experiences
anybody has had procuring a system, and any recommendations. In
particular, I am wondering about experiences regarding system licensing
and getting HP hardware support for the system.
Also, has anybody noticed a degradation in the quality of support from HP
regarding the ALPHA and Tru64?

The fastest way to bring your "uncrashable" independent CPUs with shared common memory model to its knees would be to set a few small tasks running flat out in several cores allocating and deallocating memory at random and hiting it with read/writes at worst case strides for the cache. ... Some extra hardware support for memory allocation and garbage collection might also be handy but is not mainstream. ... (sci.electronics.design)
