Java patch-upgrade

Hi all,
Six months ago someone asked how JAVA SDK is upgraded
from 1.4.2-2 to 1.4.2-6. There was no summary though.
I plan to upgrade from 1.4.2-3 to 1.4.2-6 on 5.1B pk6,
but the release notes seem to deal only with a full
version upgrade rather than a patch upgrade.
Short of proper guidance one feels tempted to completely
de-install 1.4.2-3, go back to 1.3.1, and then install
1.4.2-6. Is that in fact the recommended procedure?
Cheers
