Yes and no.

Consider my posts here. Many just don't like my name and instead of judging
each post by their content, they just killfile all my posts.

In a less dramatic fashion, over recent months, I have built a certain opinion
of certain authors, not so much of their personality, but what they can ,
cannot, do and do not say. The recent article "defending" HP's handling of
VMS, had it been written by anonymous, would have had less "meaning". Because
it was written by Terry Shannon, the contents remained the same, but the
article reflected on Mr Shannon, and subsequent articles will be tainted.

In the same way, I have come to think of CNN as a Bush propaganda machine that
is totally biased and thus unreliable. Still tune in from time to time to see
what they have to say because it is important to know what the masses in the
USA are being fed. Similarly, it is still important to see what Mr Shannon has
to say, but one has to take it with a grain of salt because of suspiscion that
he is not free to say what he really wants to say (don't bite the hand that
feeds you).

Similarly, a single statement from a top HP person wouldn't signify a true
change in handling of VMS. But it may signify the start of such. So one would
then have to keep eyes wide open to see if that statement is really
translating is a real change, or of the person was simply playing lip service
to calm, the masses.

A statement by Mr Gorham on the state of VMS has a lot less weight than a
statement from Carly, even if it is the exact same statement. That is because
I know that there are layers between Gorham and Carly who don't like VMS. So
if something go up above that layer, it has more weight than if it is issued
by a grunt at the bottom of the scale who is below an inpenetrable layer.
