1- You want a vendor you can trust.

2- You don't want to have to constantly guess what a vendor REALLY intends to
do with their product which you need.

3-The future of IA64 is still quite cloudy. Even the apologists agree that
IA64 is still something that would materialise in the future.

4-The futire of VMS is even cloudier with HP not mentioning VMS unless the
loyalists generate sufficient number of complaints.
