There have been several posts over the years to this forum regarding
Vax 4000s that "lost" theTime Of Year, or their "boot" information,
after a power outage. The most frequent culprit sited is a defunct
NiCd battery (3.6V @ few hundred mAh).
For any who have an interest, Radio Shack cordless telephone NiCd
battery 23-281 will substitute for the original NiCd battery in this
system. The battery itself has to be "attached" to the underside of
the user console with "sticky back" Velcro ( the physical size is
different so it will not fit in the battery "snap" holder) , but the
pinout on the connector is the same as on the OEM. The plug has a
slightly different shape (the Radio Shack is smaller in OD dimension),
but the plug connector pin spacing and wire sizes are a match. There
is no problem sliding the connector into place. Cost is $12.99 US
