All:
I was responding to a storage question on ITRC when it hit me that the one
key requirement that I would have for another vendors server to run VMS in a
production SAN environment is the built in firmware ability to deal with
multi-pathing boot devices! I.E. How easy is it to set this up to boot
from a SAN drive.
With the Alphaservers that I have dealt with, this functionality is part of
the console firmware! All of the other OS's that I deal with have an added
securepath layer that lets them deal with the SAN.
So, even if a DELL server was capable of running OVMS. If it could not boot
from the SAN, it is useless to me in my work environment! I might like it
at home. :-) but it would not be production ready for me.
Thoughts? Opinions?
Could you run your VMS box without a console port?
How would you set your boot parameters in a common OS disk cluster
situation?
...Now where is that stupid motherboard jumper has been the PC solution so
far... :-)
