Have you tried creating an ANSI tape on VMS and reading it on Unix ?

Also, are your files "vms" text files (variable length records) or "unix" text
files (streamlf) ?

If they are variable length files, you may wish to convert them to streamlf so
that Unix can process them natively.

Have yo considered using FTP or kermit to move the data ? that would load the
files in a text format native to Unix.
