Not exactlty humour since it is happening. not sure of VMS is part of this however.
But consider the potential liability to a computer manufacturer using the
"total information awareness" project in the USA as marketing leverage:
JetBlue, a popular USA airline got into a massive PR problem when it was
discovered that they had participated into that total information awareness
project by donating 5 million reservations records to the defense department
who then passed this onto some private contractor who then started to make
public presentations on the subject.
So HP shouldn't brag about being part of such endeavours because it will come
back to haunt them, even though in its present state, the US population is
highly supportive of all those government projects associated with the patriot
act/homeland security.
Until the USA passes strict data privacy laws, the "total information
awareness" projects will ammass petabytes of data on individuals and the lack
of restrictions on data exchanges will continue to generate JetBlue-like leaks
from the private/personnal to public realm.
