No, I was doing backups from RA81s to RA60 on a nightly basis with a 3.[456]
system. The ODS-2 spec includes `loosly coupled volume sets' as a standard
thing.

That is 100% correct. Also, if you don't init the drive you can end up
using just the remaining free space. "Why is it using 6 packs?"...
