Itanium is the based on PA-WW (Wide Word) which has its origins
in work done by Cydrome. The project started at HP proper in 1990
staffed by engineers aquired from Cydrome.
Intel joined, was suckered into a joint development in 1994.
The WSJ suggested that Intel and HP between them have sunk
a total of 5 billion dollars into Itanium, however that count
was conducted 18 months ago so add another billion.
