XP is actually pretty much a decent upgrade from W98 provided you have a
PII/PIII 450 or greater, if you shut off all the unneccessary services
it comes with default on. Blackviper guide has some good lists.
the stability on XP is WAY better than W98. I had to restart my Win98
system every 6 hours of use.
I can actually leave my XP system up for a couple of days of heavy use
before I start having problems with application stability.
the downside of XP is that you are vulnerable to all the nasty RPC junk
Windows leaves on and which is the current favorite target for Windows
attackers, and which basically can't be turned off.
