At what point does your monitor freeze ? What is displayed on it when it
freezes ?

Also, are you able to reproduce this freezing while booting from a VT terminal
? (It isn't cleare if the problem is only when you boot from console vs
terminal, or if you boot from power up or just reboot).

Do you have another machine on the lan ? Can you decnet to the "frozen"
machine ? Or ping it ?
(eg: is it decwindows that freezes or the whole system).

If you disabable decwindows with the SYSGEN paremeter (WINDOWING_SYSTEM if I
recall properly), can you boot to completion on the console ? From there, you
could then re-enable windowing system and re-execute startup.com with the
right parameters and I think you shoudl be able to manually start decwidnows,
at which point you might have a better idea of how far it can go before
freezing (SET VERIFY might help)
