A legitimate question. Enough has transpired since I wrote the above
that I have no idea what specific instance I may have been thinking of
when I wrote it (other than perhaps the literary attraction of using
part of your own phrasing as my response to it), and while a great deal
of what you have written here is decidedly questionable philosophically
and logically a quick review does not reveal any other instances of
blatant incomprehension prior to that post of mine (and while your
subsequent characterization of JF's beliefs might qualify, you have
already agreed that it may have lacked foundation).

Hard as it may be to recognize, I do appreciate the efforts you have
made to carry on a discussion here in the face of rather vehement
responses on my part. Possibly that's because you appreciate that my
vehemence comes from the feeling of personal responsibility I have for
my government's actions (a feeling which I believe should be part and
parcel of participation in a democracy): when those actions are purely
internal I can shrug them off as our deserving the kind of government
that we've elected, but when they extend out into the rest of the world
that rationalization no longer works very well).
